- The plastic T-connection/nipple on the upper heater hose connector has broken off and is stuck inside the hose. At this time, we recommend replacing the upper heater hose assembly and removing the broken piece from the end of the hose to restore a proper sealed connection and prevent coolant leaks. This type of failure is common on aging cooling systems because the plastic fittings become brittle from heat cycles and time, and once one connector breaks, it often means the rest of the plastic components are not far behind. Other cooling system parts may soon require repair or replacement (such as additional hose connectors, plastic coolant tees, thermostat housing, radiator end tanks, or other quick-connect fittings) because the system is typically only as strong as its weakest plastic link, and these pieces can start failing one after another. With the component replaced no other immediate leaks were found. It's recommended to keep an eye on the engine temperature for a while to ensure it doesn't overheat if another component were to fail suddenly.
